NON-PLACES
2013Temnikova & Kasela Gallery, Tallinn
More than about place (even if the place is non-), the exhibition is about encounters, experiences, viewing. Surely, it is about distance – between thoughts, spaces as well as humans.
Exhibition “Non-places” is largely inspired by galleries that are not white cubes where artists display their works at exhibitions. There are galleries which are much more dynamical and consist of everyday changes – e.g. shorter exhibits during longer exhibitions.
How to exist together continuously? What is a (gallery)space around private and public or the distance between them? What is personal at all?
I have chosen Luce Irigaray’s quote to characterize the exhibition:“Thus a way of living together can be founded, in which this togetherness, without being simply visible as such, allows for a place in which we can continue to dwell. This place remains always open – which does not mean simply empty – for a possible welcoming of the other and of that which is realized together”.
